Introduction
My interest in the human movement apparatus is awakened early in my life. In the first place because I did a lot of sport activities, but also, to witness how my mother broke her ankle while skating. Her ankle was distorted and had to put in surgery and that impressed me greatly.
After my childhood in South Africa I studied medicine in Rotterdam and trained as an orthopedic surgeon in Amsterdam.

Above all, with orthopedic surgery it is in many cases possible to improve the quality of one's life which appeals to me. Think of a dodgy knee or hip joint and replacement with a prosthesis is in many cases an excellent solution.  And as an athlete having a torn meniscus or cruciate is not the end of his or her sporting career.

Surgery is my passion, and my aim is perfection.

Yet orthopedics is primarily based on listening, because communication with the patient is a very important aspect of treatment. For me, surgery is only successful when the patient have very positive benefits on the long run.

Further I conduct scientific investigations to the benefits of knee prostheses.
